My Platform

I believe conference engagement can be increased by getting the word out to as many students as possible. Many of the conferences we send students to, most people don't know of them or what they are.

A main task for VP External is overseeing the Western Engineering Competition (WEC). Currently, the bonus mark program is fully run and managed by the WEC Team. Meaning that the team has to contact all of the professors and determine which courses offer bonus marks. If elected, I plan to make the program more run by the faculty. This would ensure a smoother process for students getting their bonus marks and that professors can better trust the program so that we can hopefully broaden the range of courses offered in the program.

I believe that more information conferences need to be provided to students and on more platforms. The main way conferences/events are advertised is through the UES instagram and facebook. Some other ways to get the word out to students is by giving announcements to classes and hosting info sessions.

Another thing I would like to improve is external program knowledge. Another reason I feel that we lack conference involvement is that many students don't know or understand our external programming. Even when I was first a part of the Ontario Engineering Competition, I didn't know what ESSCO or CFES was or what they did. I think that more info sessions and setting up an instagram for external events would help students better understand these events and increase engagement.
